Anthony Alexander Leads Growing Direct Sales Team at Playwire

Anthony Alexander first began his career with Playwire in June of 2012 as an Account Executive. He was later promoted to Director of Strategic Partnerships before a short stint away from Playwire, which ended in March of 2016 when Anthony returned as VP of Sales. Since then, Anthony has quickly climbed the ladder to his current role as Playwire's EVP of Global Sales where he oversees the operations of our rapidly growing, globally-based Direct Sales team.

In his current role, Anthony is responsible for "supporting our sales team and our publishers, helping out and forging direct advertiser relationships." How does our sales team forge said direct relationships, you ask? By, "calling on clients directly, the agency trade desk, the agencies themselves, and anybody else who wants to buy our publishers’ inventory.” In other words, "it’s [our sales team's] job to go out and craft those direct partnerships and really make sure that [Playwire is] driving premium value for our publishers in terms of CPMs, custom integrations, and overall earnings," Anthony continued, "[it's also our job to help] make [our advertisers'] lives easier, to help them streamline things, to help them create custom creative, and deploy that scale across all of our partners." The ultimate benefit of all this, keeping our publisher-first mantra in mind, is that the more we sell, the more direct revenue our partners get and conversely the higher their page view CPMs will be.

Ultimately, Playwire is always looking to stay ahead of every major ad tech curve and/or trend, which is clear when you bring up two major passion points of Anthony's, the metaverse and our DE&I efforts.

The metaverse is a space Playwire has been in for more than 10 years, said Anthony, "We’ve been in in-game advertising for 10 years, we’ve been doing things inside games like Minecraft and Roblox." Thus, as the the word 'metaverse' continues to trend upwards within the digital advertising space, "[Playwire will] continue to evolve this product because our partners see such tremendous value here. We’ll make sure to align advertiser KPIs with the right in-game experience and help track and help keep everybody safe in that equation."

In terms of our DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) efforts, this is an arena Playwire is passionate about from every angle: for our publishers, for our advertisers, and for our employees. Within Playwire's doors, we believe in the power of people and diversity is at the core of that. The same is true for the technology our team works so hard to develop, "We are home to amazing publishers that grant us amazing first-party data. Everything from registration data to survey data and everything else in between allows us to really understand who’s coming to our sites and help our advertisers target around that. We’ve built some really robust data products to allow brands to not only reach minority-owned businesses but also be able to deliver their campaigns equitably," explains Anthony.

Furthermore, when asked what he would you say to someone considering partnering with Playwire, Anthony said, “Evaluate, but come back and really see what we can do for you in terms of saving you money and making you money,” continuing, “What other places are you going to get a full tech stack, a full sales team, and frankly somebody that cares about your success the way that we do?”

When asked to discuss what Anthony means to the company, Playwire CRO, Anthony Berrena, said, "I've worked with Anthony Alexander (or Double A as he's known around the office) almost a decade now and I have not met a better sales person since then; he has a presence about him that allows him to command the attention of the room as soon as he walks in," continuing, "He also has this ability to continuously come up with ideas and ways to bring direct demand to our partners each and every year."
